- Principal Legal Officer – ASAP – 07/03/2025
- Senior Legal Officer – ASAP – 20/01/2025
Both positions are located in their busy St Leonards’ office and have hybrid options available – WFH 2 to 4 days per week.
About the Positions
1. Principal Legal Officer
Duties
- Provide specialist legal advice on transaction documents (consultant agreements, construction contracts).
- Support General Counsel, senior executives, and staff.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and drive timely outcomes.
- Supervise and mentor junior lawyers.
- Assist with briefing the Board, executive, and Audit & Risk Committee.
- Develop relationships with government leaders and stakeholders.
- Update contracting platform documents regularly.
- Conduct workshops, training, and briefing sessions.
- Manage external lawyers and counsel.
- Refresh construction contract templates.
- Identify weaknesses and advise on risk profile.
Key Challenges:
- Provide high-standard legal services independently.
- Act as the expert on construction contracts.
- Deliver solutions-focused legal services within tight timeframes.
- Manage competing stakeholder priorities.
- Achieve organisational and professional development goals.
Requirements:
- Expertise in construction law is a requirement.
- Ideally possess experience in governance, administrative law, or policy making and legislative process.
- Understanding of government policy development and decision-making processes is ideal.
- Admitted or eligible for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW.
- Eligible to hold a NSW Practising Certificate.
2. Senior Legal Officer
Duties:
- Provide specialist legal advice on building contracts, leases, funding, and property acquisition agreements.
- Support General Counsel, Principal Legal Officer, senior executives, and staff.
- Manage legal matters and stakeholder relationships
- Supervise and mentor junior lawyers.
- Develop relationships with government leaders and stakeholders.
- Update contracting platform documents and legal guidance materials.
- Conduct workshops, training, and briefing sessions.
- Manage external lawyers and counsel.
- Report regularly to the HI Legal team.
Key Challenges:
- Provide high-standard legal services in a high-volume, complex environment.
- Deliver solutions-focused legal services within tight timeframes.
- Manage competing stakeholder priorities.
- Balance independent work and staff supervision.
Requirements:
- Experience in commercial, contract, property, and/or construction law.
- Experience in administrative law or policy making and legislative process.
- Drafting and negotiation skills, familiarity with NSW Government contract forms.
- Understanding of government policy development and decision-making processes.
- Admitted or eligible for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW.
- Eligible to hold a NSW Practicing Certificate.
