About the company
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Local Government Agency to engage a Media Advisor. This position is located in their busy Logan Central office for an initial 4-month contract.
About the Position
The Media Advisor will support Local Council corporate objectives by implementing effective media and communication strategies to enhance the public profile of the Council. The role sits within the Corporate Communications Branch and contributes to strategic planning, media engagement, and content production.
Duties
- Develop and implement media and communication strategies aligned with Council objectives.
- Identify and pitch proactive media opportunities to local, state, and national outlets.
- Provide strategic media advice to elected members and senior staff.
- Prepare media releases, speeches, and digital content for various platforms.
- Liaise with media representatives and monitor coverage to manage reputation.
- Support media training and reviews for Council staff and officials.
Requirements/Skills
- Degree in journalism, communications, or public relations.
- Extensive experience in journalism or public relations, ideally in a political or government setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with social media and web-based communication tools.
- Current “C” class driver’s licence and Blue Card (Working with Children).
- Ability to work after-hours/on-call as required.
