About the company
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an IT Application Developer. This position is located in their busy Docklands office for an initial contract until 12-month contract, with 2 possible 12-month extension options.

This team delivers enterprise data and analytics services supporting major government initiatives and digital transformation programs. You will join a highly collaborative engineering environment focused on modern cloud-native architecture, scalable APIs and microservices delivery.

About the Position

The IT Application Developer will design, build and deliver high-quality cloud-native applications that support enterprise platforms and major strategic programs.

Working as part of an Agile delivery team, you will contribute to the end-to-end development lifecycle, including architecture design, development, testing and deployment of modern backend services. The role focuses on Node.js, TypeScript/JavaScript and AWS cloud technologies, delivering scalable microservices and event-driven systems that support high-volume government services.

You will work closely with architects, DevOps engineers, testers and product stakeholders to deliver secure, resilient and maintainable digital solutions.

Duties

  • Design and develop cloud-native applications using TypeScript / JavaScript and Node.js
  • Build and maintain API and microservices architectures supporting enterprise platforms
  • Develop scalable backend services using AWS technologies including ECS, S3, SQS, CloudWatch and IAM
  • Design and deliver containerised applications and support deployment pipelines
  • Apply test driven development (TDD) and implement unit, integration and contract testing
  • Produce technical design artefacts including functional specifications, API contracts and process flows
  • Contribute to API governance and standards, including work with enterprise API management platforms
  • Conduct code reviews and mentor developers within the delivery team
  • Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers and product stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes

Requirements/Skills

  • Must hold a Baseline Security Clearance
  • Strong experience developing backend services using Node.js and TypeScript / JavaScript
  • Experience designing and implementing API and microservices architectures
  • Strong experience working with AWS cloud platforms
  • Experience building and deploying containerised applications
  • Experience implementing testing strategies including unit and integration testing
  • Strong understanding of scalable, resilient and secure application design
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with API management platforms such as Apigee
  • Experience delivering solutions in government or highly regulated environments
  • Experience building high throughput / high availability systems
