Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an EL1 Plant Pathologist for a Casual Contract based in Darwin, NT for 28/09/2026 – 30/06/2027. A possible 6 month extension may be available.
About the Position
The EL1 Plant Pathologist will provide specialist plant pathology and diagnostic services supporting plant health surveillance, diagnostics, and early detection activities. The role involves laboratory, field and office-based work across a range of environments.
Duties
- Provide specialist plant pathology diagnostic services supporting plant health surveillance activities
- Undertake plant health surveys, field investigations and plant sample collection
- Conduct diagnostic testing and identify plant pathogens in accordance with laboratory procedures
- Manage, analyse and report plant health surveillance and diagnostic information
- Participate in survey planning activities and liaise with multidisciplinary teams
- Support stakeholder engagement and communicate plant health findings
- Participate in field deployments across Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia
- Complete regular reporting on work progress, diagnostic outcomes and deliverables
Requirements/Skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
- Current Apply First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain
- Current manual driver’s licence and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle
- Ability to undertake field work in remote and challenging environments
- Ability to comply with PPE, laboratory protocols and WHS requirements
- Availability for occasional out-of-hours and weekend work
- Australian Citizenship
- Two professional reference checks
