About the company
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an EL1 Data Scientist. This position is located in Multiple Locations Available Across Australia for an initial 19/10/2026 – 30/06/2027 contract.

About the Position
The EL1 Data Scientist will apply advanced data science, machine learning, natural language processing and generative AI capabilities to develop analytical solutions and support large-scale skills data initiatives. The role will design scalable analytical processes, data pipelines and model-driven solutions.

Duties

  • Develop and deploy NLP, machine learning and generative AI solutions to extract, classify and relate information from complex datasets.
  • Build and optimise transformer-based and Large Language Model (LLM) approaches for classification, semantic similarity, clustering and entity resolution.
  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines, validation frameworks and analytical processes.
  • Evaluate, test and improve model performance through benchmarking, validation and quality assurance activities.
  • Produce technical documentation and collaborate with technical stakeholders to operationalise AI-driven solutions.

Requirements/Skills

  • Baseline Security Clearance required
  • Demonstrated experience as a Data Scientist with advanced Python programming skills.
  • Strong expertise in natural language processing (NLP), machine learning and Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Experience developing and optimising AI and generative AI solutions within modern computing environments.
  • Ability to apply model evaluation, validation, benchmarking and reproducibility methodologies.
  • Experience with software engineering and MLOps practices, including version control, testing and model lifecycle management.
