Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an Indigenous Liaison Officer. This position is located in their busy Penrith, NSW office for an initial contract until 08.12.2025/12 month contract.
  
About the Position

You will support the Department Commission’s commitment to the whole-of-Government Closing the Gap strategy. You will be part of a high-performing team and exemplify Commission’s Values and Behaviors. You will leverage key relationships across the Commission and your own network to embed inclusion and drive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. 

Duties
The successful candidate will undertake the following key duties:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of an Indigenous Compliance Strategy and a Remote area Compliance Strategy
  • Contribute to high quality end-to-end compliance monitoring and investigations work into disability service providers and workers.
  • Provide support to manage and guide compliance operations in indigenous communities.
  • Participate in the development and dissemination of policies, guidelines, resources, and procedures for the conduct of the team. 
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholder.
  • Support compliance promotion and education campaigns to inform and educate department providers, participants and the public
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies or authorities and where appropriate refer matters to them under the relevant jurisdictional law
  • Assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of legislative and regulatory reforms across the Regulatory Operations Division.
  • Other duties as required
  • Regular travel may be required

Requirements/Skills

  • A positive, contemporary attitude to people with disability and to develop excellent working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders across Indigenous communities. 
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or communities required.  
  • An understanding of contemporary regulatory practices and approaches.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement to achieve quality outcomes.
  • An understanding of the Department Quality, Safeguarding, Framework and the Act.
  • Experience in or demonstrated understanding of disability services in a State or Territory Government context.
