Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Local Council Agency to engage a Principal Internal Auditor. This position is located in their busy Strathpine, QLD office for an initial 3-month contract.
About the Position
The Principal Internal Auditor with Project Management Expertise will provide independent assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. The role blends traditional audit responsibilities with project management, focusing on strategic initiatives and infrastructure projects.
Duties
- Plan, execute, and report on internal audit engagements with a focus on project governance and delivery.
- Assess project management practices including planning, execution, monitoring, and closure.
- Evaluate compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Provide recommendations to improve project controls, risk mitigation, and value for money.
- Collaborate with project teams, PMOs, and senior stakeholders to ensure audit findings are actionable.
- Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and report progress to management.
- Support the development of the annual audit plan focusing on high-risk projects and programs.
Requirements/Skills
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CIA, CPA, PMP, or PRINCE2.
- Proven experience in internal audit and project management within complex environments.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g. PMBOK, Agile, PRINCE2).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage multiple audit engagements and deliver results within deadlines.
