About the company
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an APS6 Network Engineer. This position is located in their busy metropolitan office for an initial 6-month contract with a possible extension of up to 18 months.
About the Position
The Network Engineer will join global IT network team, supporting services across approximately 60 locations in over 50 countries. The role focuses on operational maintenance, incident response, and project work to implement and enhance digital network services. Austrade is adopting a cloud-first approach, aiming to reduce its on-premises footprint.
Duties
- Provide Level 2 and 3 support for a global network, including fault response, configuration updates, and system health monitoring.
- Install, configure, and maintain Cisco and Fortinet hardware/software for Data Centre Networking, SDWAN, VPN, and Wi-Fi.
- Identify and implement system improvements and contribute to project work.
- Research and recommend new hardware/software for network development and support.
- Manage system upgrades in line with ISM guidelines to maintain security posture.
- Maintain accurate network documentation and standard operating procedures.
Requirements/Skills
- Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain NV1 Security Clearance.
- Experience with Fortinet, Cisco, and Azure networking products.
- Proficiency with FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAuthenticator, FortiAnalyzer.
- Familiarity with SolarWinds or similar network monitoring tools.
- Strong understanding of IP/TCP/UDP, routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), QoS/DSCP, DMVPN/ADVPN.
- Knowledge of SNMPv3, NetFlow, AVC, NBAR, and network performance tools.
- Experience with encryption/authentication protocols: IPSEC/IKE, 802.1x, RADIUS, TACACS+, SSL/TLS, EAP.
