About the company
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a State Government Agency to engage a Cultural Heritage Officer. This position is located in their busy Brisbane or Bundaberg office (with frequent travel to Bundaberg and surrounding areas) for an initial 24-month contract.
This organisation plays an important role supporting regional infrastructure and community development across Queensland and works closely with Traditional Owner groups, landholders, and project delivery teams to ensure cultural heritage obligations are met during major projects.
About the Position
The Cultural Heritage Officer will support the delivery of cultural heritage survey and monitoring programs associated with a major infrastructure project.
Working closely with project teams, cultural heritage specialists, Traditional Owner representatives, and landholders, this role ensures cultural heritage obligations are met while facilitating respectful engagement and access arrangements for field activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a heritage professional who is passionate about working with Traditional Owner communities and contributing to responsible project delivery.
Duties
- Support the delivery of Cultural Heritage Survey and Monitoring Programs, ensuring safe and timely completion
- Work with project teams to ensure cultural heritage requirements are incorporated into project activities
- Coordinate inductions, training and compliance activities related to cultural heritage management
- Liaise with landholders and their representatives to arrange access for field surveys
- Supervise engagement with Traditional Owner representatives during survey and monitoring activities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Traditional Owner groups and project stakeholders
Requirements/Skills
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Cultural Heritage, Archaeology, Anthropology, or Heritage Management role
- Demonstrated experience working with Traditional Owner groups and organisations
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Anthropology, Archaeology, Heritage Management, History or similar discipline
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
- Experience supporting heritage surveys, monitoring programs, or cultural heritage management plans
- Ability to travel to regional project locations as required
