About the Client
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with the National Redress Scheme to engage multiple Independent Decision Makers on a Casual contract based Australia‑wide (100% remote). The role supports statutory decision‑making functions under a Commonwealth scheme and offers ongoing work for high‑performing contractors.
About the Position
The Independent Decision Maker is responsible for making determinations on applications under Commonwealth legislation using an established assessment framework. The role requires independent, lawful, procedurally fair and trauma‑informed decision‑making.
The current IDMs have a broad range of knowledge and experience. You may be suitable if your background is in:
- Policy and/or legislative decision making
- Policy development
- Psychology/Senior Social Workers
- Child protection
- High performing roles that rely on interpreting legislation
- Indigenous affairs/policy development
Duties
- Independent Decision Makers (IDMs) make decisions on applications for redress using legislative and policy frameworks
- Apply statutory thresholds and consider all relevant applicant and institution material
- Prepare clear, defensible Statements of Reasons using approved templates
- Make timely determinations, including internal reviews when required
- Use trauma‑informed, neutral language in all written decisions
Requirements / Skills
- Experience in the social welfare, case management or legal sector
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation in decision‑making
- Understanding of the National Redress Scheme
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
- Availability to travel to Canberra for initial training and asset collection
- Australian citizenship and completion of mandatory employment checks
