About the Position
The Assistant Director – Technical Accountant provides high-level technical accounting advice and support to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, financial policy development, and effective financial management. The role also contributes to strategic projects, internal controls, and financial governance initiatives.
 
Duties

  • Provide expert technical accounting advice on accounting standards, legislation, and financial reporting requirements
  • Prepare and review reports, submissions, briefings, and communications for senior stakeholders
  • Maintain and update finance policies in line with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Assess and implement changes to financial policies and practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Conduct internal control reviews and testing programs to assess control effectiveness
  • Provide advice on complex transactions, business cases, and financial arrangements
  • Develop and enhance finance policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
  • Identify control gaps and support implementation of corrective actions
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to support executive decision-making
  • Lead or contribute to strategic and operational projects
  • Interpret complex transactions and provide guidance on appropriate accounting treatment
  • Monitor compliance with legislative requirements and treasury guidelines
  • Analyse complex transactions and provide impact assessments for decision-making

Requirements/Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent relevant industry experience
  • Current CPA or CA membership
  • Substantial knowledge of accounting standards and best accounting practices
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, policy development, and financial management
  • Demonstrated ability to apply abstract thinking in policy development within complex organisations
  • Ability to provide high-level technical accounting advice and support
  • Recent Police Check within 6 months or willingness to undertake a Police Check
  • Ability to provide two professional reference checks
