About the company
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage a Database Designer. This position is located in Melbourne CBD, Brisbane CBD or Wollongong CBD for an initial 30/11/2026 to 28/11/2027 contract.

About the Position
The Database Designer is responsible for designing, delivering, maintaining and optimising enterprise PostgreSQL databases in AWS environments. The role supports database lifecycle activities including design, build, deployment, performance optimisation and ongoing maintenance.

Duties

• Design and implement PostgreSQL database schemas, indexes and related database artefacts
• Develop and optimise PostgreSQL queries, functions and triggers to maximise performance and data integrity
• Collaborate with software engineering teams to integrate database solutions with applications, APIs and microservices
• Monitor database performance and implement optimisation strategies to improve scalability and reliability
• Establish and maintain backup, recovery and disaster management protocols
• Work with DevOps teams to implement deployment pipelines, migration strategies and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical mentorship to team members
• Research and evaluate PostgreSQL features, extensions and optimisation techniques

Requirements/Skills

• Extensive experience with AWS RDS Aurora
• Strong PostgreSQL database design, development and optimisation experience
• Experience integrating database solutions with AWS application architectures
• Experience implementing backup, recovery and disaster management protocols
• Experience working with DevOps teams on deployment pipelines and database migrations
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Understanding of change management principles
• Australian Citizenship required
• Two professional reference checks required
• NV1 Security Clearance required (MUST HOLD)
