About the company
Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an APS5–APS6 Case Officer. This position is located in their busy ACT-based office for an initial 12 month contract, with the possibility of extension.

  
About the Position
 
The Case Officer role sits within a highly engaged team responsible for assessing requests for discretionary financial assistance. The work is varied and meaningful, providing exposure to a wide range of complex and sensitive matters where recommendations can have a real impact on individuals and the broader community.

This role balances analytical decision-making with empathy and requires sound judgement, strong communication skills, and resilience. Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be comfortable reviewing sensitive and, at times, confronting information and attending the office on a regular basis within a hybrid working arrangement.
 

Duties

  • Assess requests for discretionary financial assistance, including matters of varying complexity and sensitivity
  • Review and manage personal and sensitive information with care, professionalism, and discretion
  • Research and interpret relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines to inform well‑reasoned recommendations
  • Prepare clear, defensible, and evidence‑based written recommendations for decision‑makers
  • Manage a diverse caseload and escalate risks or issues as required
  • Liaise with applicants and internal and external stakeholders to clarify information and implement decisions
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case records within an electronic case management system


Requirements/Skills

  • Australian citizenship and Baseline Security Clearance 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex information and exercise sound judgement
  • High level of attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Proven capacity to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Developed emotional intelligence, resilience, and self‑awareness, particularly when dealing with sensitive material
  • Experience in case management, customer service, legal, insurance, or government environments (desirable)
